Found a $20 bill in a parking lot and kept it without asking around

I was leaving the grocery store in Phoenix last Saturday and saw a $20 bill on the ground near my car. Nobody else was around at that moment, just a couple of people walking way off. I picked it up and looked around for a second, but I didn't see anyone looking for lost money. So I just put it in my pocket and went home. Later I started wondering if I should have turned it into customer service or something. But then I figured, it's probably from a random person who already left, and the store workers would just keep it anyway. Still feels weird though. Has anyone else found cash in a parking lot and had to decide what to do with it?

Overheard a farrier say he doesn't touch a forge under 300 degrees and it clicked for me

I was at a hammer-in last Saturday up near Salem and this old farrier was talking to a couple guys about his preheat routine. He said if the steel hits the anvil below 300 degrees it's like trying to work cold taffy. I've been a hobby smith for about 3 years and I always rushed to start hammering as soon as the color looked right in low light. That one overheard comment made me actually grab a temp gun and check my own work. Turns out I was starting at maybe 200 degrees and wondering why my leaf hooks were cracking at the bends. Now I wait until the infrared reader hits at least 325 before I pull it from the fire. Has anyone else found a specific temp that made their projects come out better?

That seamstress at the swap meet who called my pattern 'ambitious'

So I was at the Rose Bowl swap meet back in March, just browsing fabric stalls, and this older woman running a booth saw me eyeing a heavy linen. I mentioned I was trying to draft my own wrap dress pattern from scratch. She just squinted at my quick sketch on my phone and said, 'That dart placement is fighting the grain line, honey.' Then she pulled a scrap of muslin and spent five minutes showing me how to pivot the dart a half inch to the left. I actually tried her fix when I got home and the bodice finally laid flat. Has anyone else had a random stranger completely save your project with one simple tip?

Tried parktool bleed kit against the cheap amazon version with my shimano brakes

Spent $45 on the ParkTool kit after fighting with a $12 amazon bleed cup that leaked mineral oil all over my garage floor, and the difference in seal quality and control made a full bleed take 20 minutes instead of an hour and a half, has anyone else found the cheaper versions just aren't worth the hassle?

Why does nobody talk about the human side of phishing tests at work?

I work at a mid sized company in Austin and our IT guy sent out a fake phishing email last month. One of our older coworkers actually clicked it and reported it to him personally saying 'hey is this legit?' The IT guy basically laughed at him in front of everyone. Now the guy feels stupid and tells me he won't report anything again cause he doesn't want to look dumb. Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of training people? If we shame folks for being cautious how are they supposed to learn? Has anyone else seen this backfire at their job?

Learned the hard way: don't skip the vapor barrier behind your shower walls

Last month I redid my master bath in Phoenix and thought I could save $40 by leaving out the vapor barrier behind the cement board. Three weeks later I found black mold creeping up the drywall on the other side. Anyone else had moisture problems from cutting corners on waterproofing?

Am I the only one who keeps seeing people torque lug nuts dry on regional jets?

I was helping a buddy swap a wheel on a CRJ200 last Tuesday and noticed the last guy never put any anti-seize on the studs. Then I looked at the manual and it clearly says to use it. We had to beat that wheel off with a sledge. Why is skipping that step so common? I've seen it three times now in two different hangars. Has anyone else run into this or am I just unlucky?

Shoutout to the old guy at Ace Hardware who told me to soak wood chips overnight

I laughed at him and threw dry hickory chips straight on the coals during a brisket cook last Sunday. Ended up with bitter smoke that tasted like ash and ruined a $80 cut of meat. Has anyone else had a beginner mistake backfire this hard?
