The guy at the DMV in Reno told me to move to a city where I knew nobody, and I actually did it 3 weeks later
I was sitting in the DMV in Reno waiting to renew my license, and this older guy next to me started talking because we were both stuck there for like 90 minutes. I told him I was bored of my town and thinking about moving but scared to leave everyone. He looked at me and goes, if you move somewhere with a friend, you'll just hide in that friend and never build a life. Move alone or don't move at all. I got my license renewed, went home, and 3 weeks later signed a lease in Boise where I knew zero people. The first month sucked, I ate dinner alone every night and called my mom crying twice. But by month 4 I had a job at a coffee shop and actual friends I made myself instead of ones I inherited. I still think about that guy. Did anyone else get pushed into a big move by a total stranger?
Man, that DMV guy was basically a free life coach while you were just trying to renew a license. Meanwhile the only wisdom I ever got at the DMV was a guy telling me my number was wrong, so honestly you won that day.
