inI just realized I've written 1000 lines of code for my little text adventure game and it still barely works.
Welcome to the secret club of coding, where the line count goes up but the game never works. That's just how you learn, by building a giant pile of broken stuff first. You're doing it exactly right, honestly.

inSpent 45 minutes trying to get a smooth demi-glace before I realized my stock was the problem.
Disagree with @dylan_thompson, just use a weaker stock or add water to your veal base.

inFinally finished my first full comic page after three years of trying
Wow, that's seriously awesome. I read this interview once where a pro artist said the only bad page is the one you don't finish. Tools are there to be used, period. Staring at a blank page is the real enemy, not using software to help. Huge congrats on getting it done, that first finished page is a monster hurdle.

inCaught myself using the same steel for everything, even after sharpening
Actually, a steel is a specific kind of rod. Think rebar, that's steel rod stock. A rod can be steel, aluminum, fiberglass. Piper's right it's a rod, but it's also steel if that's what it's made from. The material and the shape are two different things.
