Stop dipping your BBQ chips in ranch. It ruins the rub.

Was at a tailgate last Saturday and saw a guy dump a whole bag of salt and vinegar chips into a bowl of ranch. The vinegar just curdles the ranch. Tastes like sour milk. I called him out and he got defensive. Am I the only one who notices this?

Had one of those perfect days last Tuesday where everything went right and it weirded me out.

I woke up to no traffic, found a $20 bill in my jacket pocket, and the coffee shop got my order right on the first try for once, and I spent the whole day waiting for something to go wrong - has anyone else had a day that was too good and it made you suspicious?

My grandma's old etch a sketch still has that magic 30 years later

I found my grandma's 1970s Etch A Sketch in her attic last Saturday and it still works perfectly. She used to draw little houses and trees for me when I was 5, and I tried making a simple star shape and it came out just as smooth. Has anyone else tried an old toy from a relative and had it still feel the same?

Tried wetting my bricks before laying them on a hot day and the mortar slid right off

I thought it'd help the bond like everyone says, but after 3 courses at a job in Dallas last July I had to rip them all out and start dry, has anybody else had this backfire on them when it's really humid out?

Hot take: gatekeeping comic fans actually ruined my local shop for me

Honestly, I used to think the hardcore fans who correct everyone on canon were just passionate. But last month at Cosmic Comics in Austin, I mentioned I liked the DC Black Label stuff and this guy spent 20 minutes telling me why it doesn't count as real comics. I just wanted to grab a new trade paperback and chat for a second. It got so awkward I left without buying anything and went to a Barnes and Noble instead. I get that people care about continuity, but acting like that just pushes new readers away. Has anyone else had a bad experience with fans at their local shop that made you rethink going back?

I had a client last week who insisted on getting a lash lift even though her natural lashes were super short and brittle

I warned her it might not hold well, but she pushed for it anyway and now she's upset the results barely lasted 3 days. Do you guys think we should push back harder on clients who want treatments that clearly won't work for their lash type, or is it their call at the end of the day?

That random stranger's comment about my cart made me rethink impulse buys

I was standing in line at the Target on Broadway last month and some older guy behind me just goes 'you know, half that stuff you'll end up throwing away'. I looked down and realized I had like 3 bags of random snack boxes and a little gadget set I saw on display. It really made me think about how much of my cart is stuff I just grabbed because it looked fun in the moment. Has anyone else had a stranger's offhand comment actually stick with you and change how you shop?

I spent $40 on a cheap fire pit and it burned my patio bad

I grabbed a thin steel fire pit from a big box store last spring thinking it would be fine for a few backyard hangouts, but after three uses the bottom rusted through and dumped hot ash onto my concrete pavers, leaving two permanent scorch marks. Now I'm looking at $200 to replace the pavers and I feel like I should have just saved up for a better one from the start. Has anyone else had a cheap outdoor purchase backfire like this or am I just picking the wrong stuff?

PSA: I wasted years overpacking my carry-on

Oh man, that stat about only using 20 percent of what you pack is brutal but so true. I think most of us pack out of fear more than actual need. Like we're scared we'll miss out on some perfect outfit or emergency gadget, but really we're just carrying around dead weight. Once you get used to the idea that you can wash clothes or buy a cheap toothbrush anywhere, it frees you up so much. My biggest win was ditching the "just in case" mindset and realizing that being uncomfortable for one night in a wrinkled shirt is way better than hauling a suitcase full of regrets. How did you handle the laundry situation on that Japan trip, did you sink wash everything or find coin laundries?
