Roman brick stamps made me rethink my whole dig approach

I spent three seasons at a site near Chester ignoring the small brick fragments, figured they were just rubble. Then during a wet week in June, I actually soaked one clean and saw a legio stamp with a date. Turns out those bits could tell us exactly when the bathhouse was built, way better than the pottery we were obsessing over. Now I bag every single stamped piece before I even touch the big walls. Has anyone else shifted their whole focus because of one tiny artifact like that?

Same thing happened when I found a single coin and stopped ignoring the dirt under my couch cushions.
