Loose brake rotors are the silent killer of new builds
I had a customer last month bring in a gravel bike they built from a frame up, and they complained about a weird knocking only under hard braking. The rotors were torqued to spec on the bolts, but the center lock ring was barely hand tight, stripped the splines in less than 50 miles. I see this at least once a month at the shop, people trust the quick release style and skip checking the ring after the first real ride. Has anyone else had a rotor failure that started as a tiny tick and ended with a full wheel rebuild?

Did I torque my own center lock ring tight enough, or should I just go hide in the parts bin now?
