inVent: Spent $40 on a fancy camp stove that barely boiled water until I tried using a wind screen from an old pizza box
Honestly, I used to be the same way - I thought you had to drop cash on the fancy stuff to get results. But last winter my buddy's cheap little propane stove was struggling in the wind up in the mountains, and I folded a piece of a cardboard box around it like a little shield. Within two minutes the water was bubbling. Ngl, it changed my whole view on gear. Now I keep a random piece of cardboard in my truck just in case I need it.

inI was on a site in Portland and saw a crew using an app to scan rebar before the pour. It caught a spacing error we would've missed.
But what happens when the old guy retires and nobody taught the new guys his gut feeling?

inTried using a shop vac instead of a brush on a heavy creosote job yesterday
Wait, a paint strainer bag over the intake hose? That's actually brilliant (why didn't I think of that). I swear @wadebailey always comes through with the random hacks that actually work.

inOverheard my boss say 'culture fit' and it meant something totally different
Yeah calling it out directly is the only way sometimes. @angela_carter really nailed it with that approach. People get so caught up in the "culture" buzzword but never actually define what it means, so managers just make up their own rules. Asking straight up like "do you want me to stay late or is leaving at 5 fine" forces them to pick a side. Most bosses will panic and backtrack if they realize their "culture fit" nonsense looks bad out loud. It's wild how much of this stuff just floats around without anyone checking if it's even real.

inChanged my mind about those fancy reusable produce bags after seeing the numbers
I read somewhere that the average household throws away about 30 pounds of plastic bags a year... that's like a whole toddler's worth of plastic waste just from bags. $200 a year is nice but the environmental part really got me. I started using those mesh bags for my greens and they actually last way longer than I expected, like over a year now and no holes.
