Man that is a rough spot to be in, watching it happen and knowing exactly how it ends. Homeowners hear a number and compare it to the other number without seeing that one crew is removing a tree and the other is trying to keep it alive. Best you can do is put your findings in writing with photos so the next guy who shows up sees the history.

Those should read around 10k at 77 degrees, so 8k means the bag sat somewhere hot or it's just plain bad.
