I hot glued a popsicle stick frame together in 3 seconds in 2019, now I sand each joint for 10 minutes
Back in 2019 I built this little popsicle stick picture frame for my mom's birthday and just blasted it with hot glue, you could see the strings everywhere and it fell apart in like 2 weeks. Now I'm sitting at my kitchen table in Boise with 220 grit sandpaper making sure every miter joint is flush before I even think about glue, and it takes me almost 3 hours to finish one frame. The change happened when a guy at the local craft store showed me his balsa wood frame and the corners were so clean I felt embarrassed about mine. I still use hot glue on stuff I don't care about but wood glue and clamps are the move for anything that needs to hold. Does anyone else here spend way too long on the unglamorous prep steps or am I just slow now?
Oh so you went from speed running to a woodworking monk. Honestly the 3 second hot glue frame probably still has a place on your mom's fridge, the new one can go on the mantle. Prep work is where all the real time goes, nobody warns you about that.
