I finally watched both versions back to back last week, and it really shows how different a movie and a TV show can handle the same book. The 2005 film with Keira Knightley is beautiful and feels like a dream, but it cuts so much out, like Mr. Collins's whole weird vibe and a lot of the family's money problems. The BBC miniseries with Colin Firth is over six hours long, so it gets every little joke and letter from the book, but it can feel slow. For me, the miniseries wins because it feels like you're actually reading the book, scene for scene. The movie is nice to look at, but it's more like a highlight reel. Which version do you think actually gets the spirit of Jane Austen's book better?
