Vent: My comic box organization system fell apart after 3 weeks

I spent a whole Sunday sorting my pulls by publisher, then by character, then by release date, color coded tabs and everything. By the third Wednesday, new books were just shoved in wherever they fit and now I can't find anything without digging through the whole long box. Does anyone actually keep a labeling system going for more than a month, or is chaos just the natural state?

String lights met their match during a July storm, is solar really worth it?

Had a cookout in my backyard off of Route 9 in New Britain last Saturday, and a gusty storm took down the whole string light setup, 40 feet of wire tangled in my lilac bush. I patched it up with zip ties and a new hook, but now I'm weighing hardwired lights against the solar ones my neighbor swears by. Solar seems cheaper upfront, but after replacing two $26 sets in a year, I'm questioning if the convenience is actually a money pit. Anyone else deal with wind damage and switch sides, or do you just build a sturdier frame?

Saw blade got hot and melted the backing, here's what saved the job

Last week in Tucson I was trimming carpet around a curved staircase and my utility knife blade was dragging. It got so hot the glue on the backing melted and left a sticky mess on the blade, then it started tearing the carpet fibers instead of cutting clean. I stopped, grabbed a spray bottle with water, cooled the blade down, and wiped it with a dry rag. That worked but only for about 15 minutes before it heated up again. What actually fixed it was switching to a fresh blade every two cuts and keeping the blade angle lower, around 20 degrees instead of 45. Any of you guys run into this on tight curves, or do you just go straight to a power stretcher and hope for the best?

Pro tip: that $300 frame pull on a unibody was a total scam

Took my 2017 Civic to a shop in Phoenix after a fender bender and they charged me $300 for a 'frame pull' on a unibody car. Turns out unibody frames dont even pull like that, they just bolted a new bracket on and called it done. I found out when the door gap stayed off by 4mm and took it to a real tech who laughed. Anyone else get hosed by shops selling fake frame work?

Two factor auth broke my login for a whole weekend, turns out it was basic

I got locked out of my email last Friday because I got a new phone and forgot to move my authenticator app over. The recovery process asked for a backup code, and I had no idea where I saved those things, probably buried in an old note app. Spent all Saturday trying every password reset option, even called my provider and they couldn't help without the code. On Sunday I found the backup codes in a random folder in my Google Drive, took about 15 minutes to get back in. Does anyone else keep their recovery codes in a weird spot or do you actually print them out?

A coworker's hot take on filler arcs made me rethink skipping them

I was talking with a guy at the shop about how I skip filler arcs to save time, and he said he watches them because they show characters just living, which you don't get in the manga. Foreman told me to stop squaring with a tape, he was right

Worked with a guy in Columbus last month on a deck job. I was doing my usual pull the 3-4-5 with the tape. He watched me for a minute and said, "You trust your eyes more than your tool." Then he had me clamp a straightedge and check with a framing square. Took me three tries to get it true. Turns out my tape method was fine on small stuff but it was sloppy on the long spans. Been using the square method all week. Has anyone else had to unlearn a habit after a quick comment from a coworker?

Torque wrench calibration check took me 4 hours

I always figured my torque wrench was fine until I hit a stubborn bolt on a header job last Tuesday. Ran a calibration test with a borrowed rig and it was off by 18 ft-lbs, which explains why I kept chasing leaks. How often do you guys actually verify yours, or is it just me?
