So I got spooked by all the tracking talk and dropped sixty bucks on this fancy privacy extension last month. It promised to block all the creepy cookies and hide my digital footprint. The setup was a pain, it broke half the websites I use for work estimates, and my search results got weirdly specific about floor adhesives. The real kicker? I dug into their privacy policy after my credit card info felt a little too 'remembered' on a shopping site. Turns out the company that makes the extension also owns a data brokerage firm. So my 'private' browsing habits were probably just getting packaged and sold by the same people I paid to protect me. I feel like an idiot. Just lost $150 on a 'professional' facial steamer that broke in a month

Honestly, I bought this steamer online because the ad said it was perfect for mobile estheticians. It worked fine for maybe three weeks, then the water tank started leaking during a client session. I tried to contact the company for a warranty claim, but they just stopped replying to my emails. Ngl, I had to cancel two appointments that day and it was so embarrassing. Has anyone found a really reliable brand for steamers that can handle being moved around a lot?

I saw the story about those two silver coins from the 1060s found at a Native American site in Maine back in 2018 and was sure they were planted. Then I read the full report from the team at the University of Southern Maine, which showed the soil layers and wear patterns were totally consistent with medieval circulation. What's a find you were totally wrong about at first?

Appreciation post: My old jar of change finally got counted

I found a big pickle jar full of coins in my closet from like 2010. Figured it was maybe 30 bucks, so I never bothered. Took it to one of those coin machines at the grocery store last week. It was $127. I felt so silly for letting it sit for over a decade. That cash covered my whole grocery trip with some left over. What's the best thing you've ever found money for?

Read an old chimney fire report that made me rethink creosote buildup

It was from a house in Burlington, Vermont, and the fire investigator noted the chimney had only a quarter inch of glaze... but it ignited because the flue temp hit over 2000 degrees from a long, hot burn. I always thought it took thicker buildup to be that dangerous. Anyone else come across a case like that?

I finally figured out how to stop my sled from bogging in deep powder

My old Polaris 600 kept choking out in the fluffy stuff up near Grand Marais, which was super annoying. After messing with the clutch weights didn't work, I tried a trick from a guy at the gas station: I raised the front of the skid frame by an inch with some homemade spacers. It totally changed the attack angle and now it just floats over the top. Anyone else had to tweak their sled's geometry for deep snow?
