TIL my town's annual scarecrow contest is a goldmine for horror prompts

My mom still has this ceramic Santa I painted in second grade. One eye is way bigger than the other and the smile is just a weird red smear. Looks like it's having a stroke. She hangs it up every year and I have to see its lopsided face judging me from the mantle. I was so proud of it then, now I realize I basically made a Christmas horror trophy.

Warning: I called out comic fans for mocking a new collector

Look, I get what @the_morgan is saying about comics being for everyone, but that's ONLY part of the story. Some people are into the hobby for the deep history and that means caring about original prints. Gently pointing out a reprint isn't the same as mean mocking, it's sharing knowledge. If we treat every version as exactly the same, we lose the real history that makes collecting meaningful in the first place. The goal should be teaching, not shaming, but we can't act like the details don't matter at all.

Having overseen rentals in overlooked mountain towns, I argue that sometimes the most authentic gems are found by embracing seasonal closures, not fighting them, but does that hinder true discovery?

Actually, @skylerb76, off-season's about authentic experiences, not laziness.

I finally nailed my pre-dive warm-up and it paid off in Cozumel

My friend Lisa swears by laying all her gear out backwards on the boat deck before suiting up. It makes you move more intentionally so you don't trip over your own feet later. Seriously, a mindful setup can save you from most pre-dive clumsiness.

At last week's reunion, the AI-generated conversation prompts fell utterly flat

Ever tried using an AI prompt only to realize you're arguing with a machine more than your friends, like @parker_wood79's group did? That friction is exactly what made their book club work, because they already had a culture of passionate debate where the AI was just a spark. Replicating that means designing prompts that challenge but don't dominate, so the human dynamics still drive the conversation.
