TIL my town's annual scarecrow contest is a goldmine for horror prompts
Everyone just makes cute farm scenes, but the twisted ones hidden in backyards could fuel so many dark tales. It's frustrating how much potential gets ignored.

Oh man, that reminds me of when we cleaned out my grandma's attic and found boxes of OLD Christmas decorations. There was this one angel ornament with this creepy, blank stare that looked totally wrong, like it had seen some stuff. My cousin said it gave him nightmares, but my aunt just put it right on the tree because it was "vintage." It's wild what people will look past because something seems normal at first glance, that angel had some ACTUAL horror movie energy just sitting in a box of tinsel. You find that stuff in the most boring places FOR REAL.

My mom still has this ceramic Santa I painted in second grade. One eye is way bigger than the other and the smile is just a weird red smear. Looks like it's having a stroke. She hangs it up every year and I have to see its lopsided face judging me from the mantle. I was so proud of it then, now I realize I basically made a Christmas horror trophy.

Did you see that story about old clown dolls in attics looking scary in daylight?
