My buddy swore by using a burner phone for everything, I thought he was paranoid

My friend Dave has been using a prepaid flip phone for 5 years and told me I should get one for anything tied to my real identity. I laughed at him until my main number got leaked from a gas station loyalty app and I started getting spam calls at 2am. He showed me how he routes all his accounts through Google Voice on a cheap phone and now I get it. Has anyone else had their number pop up on those people search sites?

Appreciation post: the guy who taught me to clean a shutter curtain without touching it

An old timer at a camera swap in Portland showed me this trick with a bulb blower and a static brush. He said 'stop poking at it, just move the dust with air.' Now I use that method on every cloth curtain repair, it saves me from leaving smudge marks.

My buddy made a crazy point about Firefly last night

He said the show didn't die because of bad ratings, it died because Fox never knew how to sell a western in space. That stuck with me because I always blamed the Friday night time slot, but maybe the network just didn't get what they had. Any of you ever hear a take that made you totally rethink a canceled show?

That $40 dash cam I bought on a whim saved me $800 last month

I was skeptical about spending forty bucks on a dash cam, but my buddy talked me into it. Some guy sideswiped my car in a parking lot and tried to say I hit him. I pulled the footage and showed it to his insurance, and they paid for everything. Has anyone else had a cheap gadget pay off way more than it cost?

Question about spending 30 bucks on a hawk vs a cheaper one

I picked up a Marshalltown mortar hawk for 30 dollars after burning through three of the cheap plastic ones in six months. The handle actually stays tight on this one, anyone else notice a real difference with the pricier brand?

Question about brine ratios after my sauerkraut went bad

I made a batch of sauerkraut last week using 2% salt by weight, like I always do, but after 5 days the top got this weird pinkish slime. I yanked it out and dumped the whole thing. Now I'm wondering if 2% is too low for warmer weather since my basement hit 72 degrees. Do you guys stick to a strict percentage or do you adjust it based on temp and season? What's your go-to ratio when it gets hot out?
