I used to laugh at using a marver for every gather, but a lopsided bowl proved me wrong.

My buddy Steve swore he didn't need to marver his stems. Ended up with a set of wine glasses that all leaned like the Tower of Pisa. He doesn't skip that step anymore, let me tell you.

Pro tip: Light olive oil doesn't mean low fat

Honestly, those clever marketing tricks @taylor.kelly talked about are why I never trust 'light' labels without checking. It's all just smoke and mirrors.

Found my grandpa's lead knife in the attic and it got me thinking

Actually used to think old tools were just worse, less efficient versions of what we have now. But trying to use my dad's old hand planer versus my electric one showed me that. Sure, the electric one is faster, but the shavings from the hand tool were perfect, like ribbons. You had to really understand the wood grain. Made me see it's not about worse or better, it's about a different kind of knowing. Kind of sad that skill isn't needed anymore, even if the job gets done quicker.

Why does oak take stain differently depending on the cut?

Saw my buddy fight with two oak boards from the same tree. The end grain on one drank the stain like water, but the other side stayed almost clean. He finally realized the wood's cut changes how it soaks up color completely.

That office build where the glass delivery put my ethics on the line

Ever get that sudden 'oh crap' feeling in your gut? Reminds me of the time I totally messed up measuring a closet and tried to play it off. Doing the right thing always feels awful in the moment but you definitely slept better that night.
