inSpent $600 on a laser level for a big foundation layout, but my partner says it's a waste when a string line works fine.
String line with pins works fine if you're doing a small patio or shed pad. But 100 foot layouts for something like a driveway or foundation? Pins get knocked loose, line sags in the middle, and you're constantly checking. For big stuff, a string line is just asking for mistakes. I'd rather spend the money on a laser level once than fight with pulling line taut across a long stretch every time. It's a no-brainer if you do these regularly.

inQuestion about handling a mess-up at work I can't stop thinking about
People do this all the time and I think it says something about how we treat our time now. We stuff our calendars so full of commitments we lose track of basic things like what day it is. It is not just a scheduling mistake, it is a sign that we are trying to do too much and not paying attention. The person waiting gets the message that they are not a priority, even if that was never the intention. Our phones and apps are supposed to help us, but we let them run our lives until a simple mix up turns into a real hurt. That is the bigger pattern I see. We need to slow down and actually look at what we agree to.

inFinally realized I was way overpacking for my trips
Not having the right gear when you need it is way worse than carrying a few extra pounds. That 22-liter daypack worked for that guy because he was in a cheap warm climate, not everyone's situation. You do you, packing light is great until you're freezing in a hostel or paying three times as much for a charger you left at home.

inWarning: I paid $380 for a telescoping rod system and it either saved my back or wasted my money
Either way your wallet got a workout too.

inI used to think adding water to the mix on a hot day was fine, but a job in Phoenix last month proved me wrong.
Phoenix in July? That's extreme, but for regular hot days I still add a splash and it works fine. Is it really that big of a deal or just a dry heat problem?
