The week my mortar mixer died and I laid 800 brick by hand
Last Tuesday my 20 year old mixer finally quit on a job in Dayton, and the replacement was 3 days out. I didn't want to sit, so I mixed every batch by hand in a wheelbarrow with a hoe for the rest of the week. My shoulders were toast by Thursday and my helper quit talking to me by Friday. But you know what, the joints came out cleaner than they have in months because I couldn't rush the mud. Has anyone else noticed hand mixing keeps you more in tune with the mortar, or am I just fooling myself after a rough week?
