My air fryer basket coating started peeling off after only 3 months

I pulled out my basket last night to make fries and found big flakes of nonstick coating mixed in with my food, has anyone else had this happen and found a good replacement basket that doesn't cost half the price of a new air fryer?

My client's old gelding taught me a lesson about hoof angles I won't forget

I had a buddy (who's not even a farrier, just a horse owner) call me out last Tuesday after I finished trimming his 18-year-old gelding. He said something like 'you sure that toe isn't too long? he's been stumbling on the trail.' At first I got a little defensive (you know how it is). But I pulled out my hoof gauge and checked, and sure enough I had the angle at 52 degrees instead of the 55 I should have been aiming for on that breed. I ended up re-doing the whole trim right there in his driveway, and the horse walked off way smoother. It stung my pride a little but it made me realize I've been rushing my angle checks on older horses with worn feet. Has anyone else had a non-farrier teach them something about their own work?

Finally got to dive on an old pier in Morehead City last month

I've been working inland lakes for the last 2 years, so the ocean felt like a whole new world. The viz was maybe 15 feet, but I spotted a big school of spadefish hanging around one of the pilings. It reminded me why I got into this trade in the first place. Has anyone else had a favorite dive spot that just makes you smile?

TIL the hard way that MDF dust blows through a shop vac filter like it's nothing

I used to just use a regular shop vac for cleaning up after cutting MDF. But last week I had a big job making 20 bookshelves for a library, and after just two sheets my filter was totally caked and I lost all suction. Now I sprung for a HEPA filter and a dust separator bucket setup like a friend in Atlanta recommended. Huge difference, the separator catches like 90% of the dust before it hits the filter. Has anyone found a better way to handle this without breaking the bank?

Lost a whole batch of cookies at a church bake sale because of one ingredient swap

I was at St. Mary's annual bake sale last Saturday and thought I'd try using margarine instead of butter to save a few bucks. Everything looked fine going in, but they spread out into flat, greasy puddles. I had to toss 4 dozen cookies in the trash and buy store-bought ones to fill my table. Has anyone else had their recipe totally ruined by swapping butter for margarine?

Hot take: Torque wrenches are worth the money for carbon bikes

I used to just tighten carbon stems and seatposts by feel. Thought I was good enough. Then I snapped a $300 carbon handlebar on a test ride last month. Learned my lesson hard. Now I torque everything to spec. Anyone else have a carbon part fail on them?

Smoked a brisket with pecan wood for the first time and I was totally wrong about it

I always thought pecan was too mild to make a difference but my neighbor in Kansas City convinced me to try it on a 15-pound packer. Has anyone else been surprised by a wood type they wrote off?

That one bus driver who remembered my stop after 2 weeks

I ride the 42 route downtown every morning and this one driver always nods at me. About 3 weeks in I was spacing out and missed my stop, but he actually called out 'hey, isn't this yours?' and let me off at the next corner. I never said anything to him before that, just got on and off. Has anyone else had a transit worker go out of their way like that for no reason?

That old binder told me to never use PVA on leather spines

A guy at the Denver bindery said PVA glue would crack on leather within a year, but I thought he was just being fussy about tradition. Fast forward 14 months and every single journal I made that way has a cracked hinge right down the middle. How do you all keep leather spines flexible without going back to wheat paste?

Finally invested in a good clipper vacuum attachment

Bought one three years ago thinking it'd save maybe ten minutes a day. Turns out it saves closer to thirty. The real game changer nobody talks about is how much better your floor stays. No more grinding loose hair into the tile with your shoes, no more dust bunnies that look like a small animal died under your chair. Also discovered you can use it to spot clean your car interior between clients. Didn't plan that, just noticed the suction was strong enough for coffee grounds and dog hair. Your barber school guy was right. It's not a luxury thing, it's a workflow thing.

I don't get why people act like Atlanta traffic is some kind of death wish. Like, yeah it's busy, but it's just cars going 30 mph on average. You can literally fall asleep and still survive.
