inCan we talk about the actual failure rate of ribbon cables in old point-and-shoots?
Honestly @the_james you nailed it. I got a Stylus Epic from a thrift store that would just show the lens error and shut off. Popped it open, that same ribbon cable was barely hanging on. Pushed it back in and the thing fired right up like new. Been meaning to do the same with my mom's old one she thinks is toast. It's wild how something that tiny stops the whole camera from working.

inFigured out a trick for fishing wire through old fire stops
Man, that brings back a memory. Buddy of mine was fishing through a building from the 60s and hit the same garbage. He tried vegetable oil on a steel fish tape and it worked okay but made a hell of a mess. Said the smell hung around for weeks.

inMy uncle said to always double check the tack strip on concrete stairs
My buddy tried using a hammer drill on old concrete and the bit snapped clean off. He learned the hard way lol. Stick with the rotary hammer for that stuff.

inThat old coax vs. the new fiber dilemma I faced last spring
$300 termination kit" hits hard. But hey, at least you get to stare at that little vial of polishing film and wonder if you're about to turn a $100 drop into an empty hole. Coax just needs a $6 compression fitting and some basic hand strength.
