Found a whole shelf of old anime magazines at the thrift store in Bellingham

I was looking for a cheap bookshelf last Thursday and went to the Value Village on Meridian. In the back corner, I saw a stack of about fifteen magazines from the early 2000s, all about anime. They had things like Newtype USA and Animerica. I flipped through one and saw a preview for a show I loved as a kid, but had completely forgotten about. Has anyone else found cool old anime stuff in unexpected places?

A neighbor's simple comment made me stop chasing gear

I was showing him my latest Andromeda shot from my backyard in Tucson, complaining about my old camera's noise. He just said, 'But look at all those stars you caught.' I'd been so focused on the gear I forgot to see the picture. Anyone else get too caught up in the technical side and miss the beauty?

My neighbor's adobe wall collapse in the South Valley changed how I think about drainage

I was helping him patch a small crack in his back wall last spring when the whole 8-foot section just slumped over after a heavy rain. The ground was so wet it looked like chocolate pudding. Turns out his downspouts were dumping right at the base for years, and the clay soil just gave up. Now I check every gutter on my place and slope the dirt away from the foundation. Anyone else in the valley had to fix something because of our weird soil?

Am I the only one who cringes when people ask for details right after a breakup?

Tbh, putting someone on the spot like that can make a bad situation way more painful.

Floating shelves are popping up in all my kitchen remodels

Recently, more homeowners in my area are skipping upper cabinets for floating shelves. I get a cleaner look by using a hidden metal bracket and lots of wood glue in the joints. How do you all deal with making sure these shelves can hold heavy dishes without sagging?

My first foreman's 'creative' solution for moving heavy plates without a crane

I mean, back in the day, we didn't always have cranes on every site. One job, my foreman hooked a come-along to his old pickup to drag a big steel plate. The truck's bumper ripped right off, and we had to finish by hand. Now, with all the safety stuff, you'd get fired for even trying that, but it was kind of funny at the time.
