inDebate: Should we pre-fill tapered joints before knocking down? I tried skipping that step on a big house in Austin and it backfired.
I did the same thing two years ago on a house in San Antonio. Had 14 foot ceilings and thought I was being clever by skipping the pre-fill. Ended up spending more time fixing those bubbles than I would have just doing it right the first time. It reminds me of how people shortcut the seasoning on a new cast iron skillet and then wonder why their eggs stick. In both cases you are just borrowing time from your future self at a high interest rate. Pre-filling is one of those steps that looks small but saves you a whole lot of headache later on.

Last time I watched The Room I did a shot every time someone said "tearing me apart" and by the end I was crying laughing at a spoon in a frame. Zero expectations plus alcohol is a cheat code for bad movies.

Oh, I had that exact same wake-up call about two years ago. What finally worked for me was starting a "use it up" shelf in my fridge where I put everything that's about to go bad, and now I plan my meals around whatever's on that shelf before I cook anything new.

inDrove past a yard with those electric leaf blowers 3 times this week
Wait, is it really that serious though? I mean, forty minutes of blowing gutters is cool and all, but my neighbor's still using his gas blower from 1995 and it's never skipped a beat. I just wonder if these things hold up after a couple years of real use, or if the battery slowly dies like my phone does. Also, how much does a replacement battery cost? Probably more than a can of gas.

inAppreciation post: The old bindery shop on Elm Street
I used to think powered sharpeners were just faster and better, until that bindery guy let me try his old manual one. He had these three different grit stones, and he'd spend like 10 minutes on just one blade, explaining how the edge gets a more even angle without overheating. Now I have a little whetstone at home and it takes me forever but the knives actually stay sharp longer. It's one of those things that seems like a waste of time until you actually do it.
