inMy old KitchenAid mixer's gear finally stripped out mid-batch.
Honestly, I'd fix the old one. Those older KitchenAids are tanks. The new ones just don't feel as solid. You can find the gear online pretty easy. It's a common fix.

inSerious question, has anyone else had issues with the new parking rules downtown?
Seventy-five bucks for a ticket?! That's insane.

inShoutout to the old timer at the Idaho show who called out my clinch
Yeah, that extra length makes all the difference. I used to cut them flush too. Then I saw a guy leave a tiny bit proud and hammer it flat against the hoof wall. Not just folded over, but actually spread out. Creates way more holding power. Now I leave that 1/8 inch like you said, drive it home, and peen it smooth. Looks pro and never pops loose.

inI was reading an old plumbing code book from the 80s and found something wild
Wow, that's a crazy difference! I had the same shock with my old water heater. The manual said it used something like 80 gallons a day on standby, and my new one is a fraction of that. It's wild how much basic home stuff has changed without us really noticing. Makes you wonder what else we're using way less of now.

inJust realized I was wrong about using a 3/8 impact for everything after a veteran tech in our Renton shop told me 'that's a great way to snap a $40 bolt on a transfer case'
My old shop foreman in Tacoma swore by his 3/8 gun for everything and never had an issue.
