Shoutout to the old timer at the Idaho show who called out my clinch

He watched me finish a shoe and said, 'Kid, your clinches look like they're trying to hide.' He was right, I was cutting them too short and not rolling them over enough. I started leaving an extra 1/8 inch of nail and really focusing on that roll. After about two months of forcing myself to do it, my clinches hold way better and look cleaner. Anyone else get a piece of advice that felt nitpicky but actually fixed a problem?

Yeah, that extra length makes all the difference. I used to cut them flush too. Then I saw a guy leave a tiny bit proud and hammer it flat against the hoof wall. Not just folded over, but actually spread out. Creates way more holding power. Now I leave that 1/8 inch like you said, drive it home, and peen it smooth. Looks pro and never pops loose.

My old farrier taught me that trick years ago, and it really does hold better.
