Serious question, has anyone else had issues with the new parking rules downtown?

I was at the Amarillo Chamber mixer last Thursday at the Barfield building and got a $75 ticket because I was 10 minutes over the new 2-hour limit. It completely ate up the profit from the two sales I made that afternoon. I'm rethinking how I schedule client meetings downtown now. What are other small owners doing to deal with this?

Yeah, that "ate up the profit" line really hits home. I read in the Amarillo Globe-News that the city said the new rules were to increase turnover for shoppers, but it's killing us who are there for work. I've started using the paid lot by the courthouse for any meeting I think might run long, even though it adds up. It stinks, but a few dollars there beats a surprise seventy-five dollar ticket any day.

Seventy-five bucks for a ticket?! That's insane.

Cities keep squeezing more out of regular people while pretending it's for the greater good. It's the same pattern everywhere, from parking tickets to late fees on bills, they're just nickel and diming everyone to death. A couple bucks for the courthouse lot is smart thinking, it's just sad that we have to plan around punishment instead of just getting our work done.
