inA retired inspector at O'Hare told me he never signed off on a job without checking the torque wrench calibration log first, and it stuck with me.
Honestly, I used to think checking the log was just extra paperwork. That quote about the tool being honest first really flipped a switch for me though. Your weekly check is probably the best simple system to catch a problem early.
