Am I the only one who feels weird about returning a half-eaten bag of chips to the store?
I was at the grocery store in Nashville last Thursday and saw a guy walk up to customer service with a bag of chips that was maybe a third full. He said they were stale and wanted a refund. The clerk gave him a full refund no questions asked. It got me thinking about where the line is on stuff like that. I mean, if I buy something and don't like it, is it fair to get my money back after I already ate most of it? Has anyone else run into this kind of thing at their local store?

Actually, stores build those return costs into their prices so people who never return anything are subsidizing the ones who do.

My own rule of thumb is if I ate more than half, that's on me. I've had a bag of chips go stale before and I just ate them anyway or tossed em. But for stuff like a jar of pickles that taste off after one bite, I've taken those back with no problem. The store's return policy matters too, some are really generous about it and others will give you a side eye. At the end of the day, it's about whether I genuinely think the product is bad or if I just didn't like it after eating most of it.
