Spent $75 on a VPN after that data breach scare and it slowed my wifi to a crawl

Last month I got one of those emails saying my info was in some breach, so I panicked and bought the first VPN I saw advertised on a podcast. I mean, it was supposed to be the best one. But after installing it on my laptop, my pages took forever to load. Like 30 seconds just to open Google. And streaming? Forget it, buffering every 2 minutes. I canceled after 3 days but they wouldn't refund me. Anyone else have a VPN that was more trouble than it was worth?

Are you sure it was the VPN that slowed things down and not just bad timing with your ISP being overloaded that same week? I’ve been using a VPN for two years now and my speeds barely drop, maybe like 5 or 10 percent, but never enough to make loading a basic page take 30 seconds. Could be that the server you connected to was just too far away or overloaded, since picking a closer one usually fixes those issues.

Paid $60 for one after a breach scare and my microwave worked faster than my internet. Tried to watch a 10 minute YouTube video and it took like 45 minutes to buffer through. Thought about canceling but their refund policy was basically "lol no." Guess I'll just go back to using public wifi and hoping for the best.
