Unpopular opinion: I think the push for 5-axis on every job is a waste of money
We had a part run for over a year on a 3-axis mill with two setups. The quote for a new 5-axis machine said it could do it in one. After six months of fighting with new programs and longer cycle times, we went back to the old way. The extra setup time is cheaper than the machine payment and the extra programming hours. Has anyone else been told a 5-axis would save them time and found the opposite?

We had the same fight with a complex aluminum housing. The 5-axis cycle time was almost double our old two-op method. Sometimes the simple way is just faster.

Tell me about it, @dakota_murphy90 (I've over-engineered a shelf bracket before).
