Found a cracked shutter blade on a vintage Nikon F2 at a thrift shop in Austin

I was digging through a thrift shop on South Congress last weekend and spotted a beat up Nikon F2 body for $40. Got it home and started cleaning it up, and I noticed the shutter sounded weird at 1/1000. Pulled the mirror box and found one of the titanium blades had a hairline crack right near the pivot point. Never seen that before on a F2, usually it's the foam or the mirror dampener that goes first. Has anyone else run into cracked blades on these older mechanical shutters? I'm debating if I should try to source a replacement curtain or just part the whole thing out.

TIL that expired developer can actually burn your client's scalp

I was digging through some old boxes in my station and found a bottle of 20 volume developer from like two years ago. Figured it was probably still good since it was sealed, so I used it on a regular root touch up. Client started complaining about a burning sensation after 10 minutes, and when I rinsed, her scalp was bright red and irritated. Looked it up later - old developer can oxidize and turn more acidic, which is what causes the chemical burn. Has anyone else run into this with old supplies?

Was dead set against using a bone folder from an upholstery supply place, but after trying one last week I get the hype now.

A buddy in the trade let me borrow his cheap nylon one from a Tandy Leather store (you know, the one near the mall) and it actually creases cleaner than my expensive teflon one without leaving any shiny marks on the paper, has anyone else found weird tools from other crafts that work better than our usual stuff?

Spent a whole shift fighting a clogged pump until I tried the reverse trick

Ngl, I was losing my mind on a job near Baton Rouge last month. The dredge pump kept jamming up with roots and debris every 20 minutes. A guy named Dave from the night crew told me to just reverse the pump rotation for a few seconds before clearing it. Honestly, it pushed the clog loose way faster than digging in with a rod. Has anyone else used this trick for tough debris on a swing dredge?

I finally found a way to keep my three kids from losing their water bottles every single day

For months I was buying those cheap plastic water bottles and they'd disappear within a week at school or daycare. I must have spent close to $80 replacing them over the summer alone. Then I tried those silicone bands that wrap around the bottle with a name tag printed on them. Not the stick-on labels that peel off, but the ones that slide on and stay put. It's been three weeks now and all three bottles are still with us. I feel like I cracked some secret parenting code or something. Has anyone else tried those bands or found a different trick that works better?

Nobody ever mentions the bun to meat ratio at chicken places...

I keep ordering spicy chicken sandwiches and finding a huge bun with a skinny little patty inside. At the Popeyes on Main Street last Tuesday, I literally took the top bun off and just ate the bottom half with the chicken. Is there a chain that actually gets the bread to chicken balance right?

Found out yesterday that my bus route has been running 7 minutes late for 6 years straight

I was looking at the transit authority's annual report online and noticed they track on-time performance by route. Turns out the 47 bus has averaged 7.2 minutes late every single day since 2018. Why isn't that just built into the schedule by now? Wouldn't that fix the problem for everyone?

That one Wednesday where I accidentally fixed a broken printer with a paperclip and got promoted to IT lead

I was just trying to get my report printed at 9 AM when the office printer jammed, so I grabbed a random paperclip from my desk and poked around inside until it spit out 50 pages of someone's wedding photos. The next day my boss said I saved us $400 on a repair call and asked if I wanted to run the whole department. Has anyone else stumbled into a career upgrade by pure dumb luck?
