My uncle said to always double check the tack strip on concrete stairs
He worked in Denver for thirty years and told me, 'If you don't, you'll hear it pop in a month.' I ignored him on a job last spring, just glued the pad down. Sure enough, got a callback in June because the carpet was pulling away from the top riser. Had to redo the whole flight. Anyone have a good method for securing strips on old, uneven concrete steps?

Oh man, I read somewhere that a hammer drill with masonry anchors is the only way to go on old concrete.

Actually, @hollyramirez, a rotary hammer is way better for old concrete.

My buddy tried using a hammer drill on old concrete and the bit snapped clean off. He learned the hard way lol. Stick with the rotary hammer for that stuff.
