That Thursday my project manager ghosted me before a client presentation

I had this huge presentation for a new client in Austin, took two weeks to prep all the numbers and strategy slides. Thursday morning rolls around, my project manager is supposed to review everything with me at 9am. She never showed up, no call, no text, nothing. I ended up presenting solo to the client, fumbled through two questions I didn't have answers for because she was supposed to handle that part. Turns out she quit that morning without telling anyone, just sent her resignation email while I was standing in the conference room. I got through the meeting but the client noticed my panic and pulled their offer down from $50k to $35k. Has anyone else had a teammate bail on them right before a big career moment like that?

Honestly, maybe she did you a favor. If you couldn't handle two unexpected questions, that's on you for not being ready to own the whole presentation.

Bet you're fun at parties where someone accidentally bumps into you and you call it a sneak attack. Who knew presenting was supposed to include a mandatory black belt in fielding random curveballs from the crowd? Guess I'll just add "mind reading" to my PowerPoint slide next time, right?
