Just realized an old farrier's file works better than my expensive specialty steel

Have you tried heating up the spine of that old farrier's file to draw the temper back a bit? I did that with a beat-up Nicholson and it cut like butter on 1084 after.

That moment you realize your torque wrench has been off for months

That moment you realize your torque wrench has been off for months" hit me right in the gut because I've been there. For smaller aviation work like cylinder heads, I send mine out every 6 months, but I also keep a cheap beam style in the toolbox to cross check before big jobs. The thing is, most shops and garages just assume their click style wrenches are accurate forever, but they drift with age and drops. You can buy those little digital adapters for under $100 now, makes checking super quick before each use. If you can't afford to send them out that often, at least get a known good test bar or use a friend's certified wrench to compare once a month or before critical fasteners. Better to catch it like you did than have something let go in flight.

Got caught in a lightning storm on the John Muir Trail near Muir Pass last August

You're saying you sat on a sleeping pad and dropped your pack. Honestly that's about the worst thing you could have done up there. Keeping your pack on actually helps because the metal frame and gear inside act as a partial Faraday cage, directing the charge around your body instead of through it. Plus sitting on a pad does nothing if the ground current is strong enough, it's not like a foam pad insulates against a lightning strike. Most experienced hikers I know would tell you to keep moving to a lower area instead of hunkering down in a bowl like that one.

Found out last week that 70% of cosmetologists don't actually sanitize their brushes between clients

@ray324 nailed it honestly. People love to blame us stylists for being lazy but it's the 30 minute turnaround that kills everything. I once tried to squeeze in a full sanitize between a perm and a color client and ended up double booking myself by accident. Now I just keep a travel sized alcohol spray in my apron pocket and pray nobody notices the wet spots on the brush handles. Ngl though, some of us are just bad at math and think "spray once, good for three clients" works.

I stopped taking the last grocery cart from the corral.

yo ryanh91 i actually just watched a whole video about this from a grocery store worker lol. they said taking the front cart is lowkey the worst move bc it messes up the flow of how they collect them. the last cart in line is the one theyre already heading to grab, so if you take it, they gotta walk all the way back to the store for another one. makes way more sense to leave it and just grab one from deeper in the line if you really wanna help out.
