My boss in Phoenix called my project plan 'a mess' during a team review.

I spent the weekend redoing it from scratch, focusing on just the next quarter's goals. Has anyone else had a public critique that actually helped them improve?

Honestly, public criticism usually just makes people shut down. That kind of blunt feedback in a team setting can wreck your confidence for weeks, making it harder to actually fix anything. Focusing on just the next quarter might be a band-aid, but it doesn't address the core issue of a bad management style.

Nah, I get where you're coming from but I've seen the opposite happen. Sometimes that public call-out is the only thing that gets through to someone who's not listening. If the feedback is true and fair, yeah it stings, but it can light a fire under you to actually change. Letting bad work slide just to save feelings hurts the whole team way more in the long run.

Remember when Jake's boss called him out in that meeting?
