Just realized my approach to networking changed completely after a failed interview in 2022.
I used to only reach out when I needed a job, but now I send a quick, genuine check-in to at least two former colleagues each month, which has led to three solid referrals in the past year alone.

That "genuine check-in" thing is so smart. It's all about the long game.

Genuine check-ins can feel totally fake though. It's just another box to tick on the networking checklist. People see right through a calendar reminder to say "hey, how's it going" every six months. That stuff builds weak connections, not real ones.
