Found my old Settlers of Catan box from college and the pieces were still sorted by color.
Last week in my garage, I opened that box for the first time since 2012, and it hit me how we used to spend whole afternoons just setting up and arguing about trades, but now my group just wants to play something faster, so has anyone else had a game that feels like a time capsule from a different era of gaming?

Remember how the box smelled like old dorm room and cheap pizza? Opening mine was like a punch in the gut, all those plans we made between turns. We weren't just moving sheep, we were building a whole afternoon together. Now everyone checks their phone between rounds, chasing that quick win, and it just feels like we lost the plot.

Yeah, "building a whole afternoon together" is exactly what that article about slow games was talking about.

Is it just games though? Feels like everything got chopped into bits. Used to watch a whole movie, now we scroll clips. Used to listen to albums, now it's just a playlist of singles. Even hanging out is just quick texts between other stuff. We traded long, messy fun for fast, clean wins and I'm not sure what we actually won.
