Finally gave in after 2 years of avoiding Gloomhaven with my group

I always thought I was too smart for the whole campaign board game thing. Took me 2 years to even try Gloomhaven after my buddy kept bugging me. Then our DM canceled D&D last minute so we finally cracked open his copy. Four hours later we barely finished one scenario because we spent 30 minutes trying to figure out the monster AI movement. Honestly I get the hype now but I still think the rulebook is a mess. Has anyone else had a game take way longer than you thought just to set up?

The monster AI movement flowchart thing helped us a ton, we almost quit before we found that. And yeah the setup is brutal, you might be missing a few of the organization inserts.

I used to skip all the setup guides and just jump in, figured I could figure it out as I went. But elizabeth_ramirez, your post made me go back and actually look at that movement flowchart. Completely changed how I see the monster AI now. Makes way more sense once you see it laid out step by step like that. Glad I gave it another shot after reading this.
