Saw a guy in Columbus pull a wheel bearing with a torch and a chisel, is that normal around here?

Why does nobody talk about how slow drip coffee tastes flat after 20 minutes on the burner?

Spent 6 years convinced a 30 dollar bike pump was all anyone needs, then a guy at the shop in Tucson asked me one question

So what was the question, did he ask if you own a car or something?

Hit 1,000 panels on my paint gun and I still can't decide if that number even means anything

could be the gun, could be me getting sloppy on a Friday" is the most honest thing I've read all week. $340 is cheap next to respraying a silver panel, and silver shows every flaw. Rebuild it and stop blaming your Friday self.

A security guy at a Kansas City meetup said pin your CI images by digest, no exceptions

Watched a guy spend two hours debugging a build once and it turned out the base image tag got reused by someone else that morning. Same tag, new bits, broke everything. He switched to digests that afternoon and never looked back.

Dropped $120 on an AI scheduling tool for my nursing shifts, mixed feelings

Is $120 really a big deal if it flagged even one shift gap you would have missed? That is like two hours of nursing pay to avoid a total mess on a Thursday night. Maybe the app is not magic, but a heads up that saves you once already pays for itself.

The old handshake deal I overheard at a diner on Gratiot saved me $1,200

I get why the line-item quote thing feels safer but honestly some of the smaller crews push back because they're just busy doing the work, not sitting at a desk writing up paperwork. The guy who cleans my building gives me a price and sticks to it, and he's never once tried to tack on extra fees after the fact. Big companies will hand you a fancy quote and still nickel and dime you later, so the paper isn't always the real protection.
