Heard a VP of Sales say ABM is just warmed over direct mail from the 90s, got me thinking

He said targeting 20 accounts with custom content is no different than a salesperson working a territory list, so is ABM really a strategy or just fancy segmentation? Has anyone else heard pushback like this and how do you respond when clients think it's a gimmick?
