Heard a pilot on the ramp call our job 'magic'
Was doing a walk around on a Citation in Dallas last month. Pilot walks by, points at the panel, and says 'You guys are basically wizards. I just push buttons.' Kind of funny, but it stuck with me. He sees a working system. We see a hundred wires, three LRUs, and a fault history that took two days to trace. Makes you think about the gap between what we do and what they see. Anyone else get comments that just totally miss the point of the job?

Read a story once where a mechanic called it "the art of making the magic box work." Always liked that. Captures the unseen work perfectly.

Yeah that "art of making the magic box work" thing from rosep87 is spot on. It's all the hidden hours they never see.
