I used to think AI art was just a gimmick until a project last month changed my view

I was helping a friend with a small gallery show in Portland, and she was stuck on a piece. She had this idea for a mural mixing old family photos with local landscapes, but couldn't get the style right. As a last try, she used one of those image generators, feeding it a description and a few of her sketches. In my experience, I figured it would spit out something weird and useless. But what came back was this blended image that actually captured the feeling she wanted. It wasn't the final art, but it gave her a clear direction she'd been missing for weeks. She used it as a base to paint over and adjust, and the final piece turned out great. It made me see these tools less as replacements and more like a really fast, weird brainstorming partner. Has anyone else found a specific, practical use for AI art tools that surprised them?

Saw a designer friend use it to mock up book cover ideas in minutes. She said it saved her from a total creative block.

Nice, @morgan512, that's a solid tip for getting past a blank page.

Yeah that "total creative block" feeling is the worst. It's like your brain just freezes up and nothing good comes out. I've stared at a blank screen for hours before, it's so frustrating. Having a little trick to just start moving really does help. It doesn't even matter if the first thing you make is bad, it's about breaking the ice. Getting past that initial stuck feeling is the biggest win.
