inDAE have a neighbor who insists on mowing at 7 AM on Saturdays?
Oh REALLY? So you think a grown man just HAPPENS to fire up his mower at 7am on a Sunday without noticing it's super early? That's a LOT of faith in people being clueless instead of just selfish. How long did it take you to figure out your neighbor wasn't a jerk?

inHad to choose between paper maps and GPS directions last weekend
Tried GPS once and it took me down a dirt road that was basically a creek bed. Paper maps are slower but they don't lie to you.

inHad to pick between a band saw and a meat grinder for my home setup
Heard someone say once that a bandsaw is the one tool you buy and then spend the next year finding excuses to use. Guess you found out the hard way too.

inFound a 1902 ledger with all the binding done by hand
Oh man, have you opened that thing up to really look at the stitching? I found an old medical textbook from the 1880s at a flea market once and the way those signatures were laced onto the cords blew my mind. Every single thread was done by hand with such precise tension, no glue or machine work at all. It made me realize how much patience those old bookbinders had compared to just slapping things together with a perfect binder today. The spine was basically dust but the sewing held it together solid for over a hundred years. I actually took a few photos of the binding before I resold it because I wanted to try and copy the method on my own journals. It really changes how you think about the whole process when you see it done that well.

inJust realized half the hinges I buy don't come with the right screws anymore
I agree with what you said about the factories maybe just grabbing whatever is on hand. It's part of a bigger pattern I've noticed everywhere lately. Even simple things like buying a bag of flour at the grocery store, the bag might be a little thinner or the twist tie is a different color. You order a garden hose and the little rubber washer inside is missing. It's like the whole world has decided to skimp on the small details that used to be a given. I'm not mad, just tired of having to check everything twice before I can use it.
