Serious question, has anyone else had a chimney go from a solid 2-inch creosote plug to completely clear in under 24 hours after a heavy rainstorm?

Seen that exact thing happen with my neighbor's wood stove last winter.

I spent $400 on a 'perfect' planner system and it made my life worse

My uncle bought a top of the line fishing rod for like six hundred bucks. He was so worried about scratching it he never took it out of the case. Still uses his old beat up one. Tools are meant to be used, not worshipped. Your cheap notebook sounds like it's doing the job just fine.

Pro tip: check the mirror box foam on old film bodies before you sell them

My buddy had the same thing happen with his Pentax K1000. He found a seller on eBay with decent pre-cut kits.

I never pruned my mint, but now it's THRIVING.

Used to think pruning was just about looks, but my basil plant proved me wrong. Let it get tall and lanky one summer and it barely made any leaves. Started cutting it back regularly and it turned into a thick, leafy monster. Totally get the mint thing now, some plants just need that tough love to actually thrive.

Had a shutter curtain ribbon cable tear on a Leica M6 while the customer was watching

Man, that's rough. I read a camera repair blog a while back that called those ribbon cables the "Achilles' heel" of a lot of 90s electronic cameras. The plastic just gets brittle. Having it happen with the client there is the worst case scenario, but you did the only thing you could. Being honest about the wait and the cost up front was the right move, even if it felt bad. That two week wait from Germany must have felt like forever with him watching it happen.
