Pro tip: stop cramming every tiny task into your daily log

I used to write down everything like 'brush teeth' or 'fold socks' and my pages looked like a mess. Last Tuesday I realized I was spending 15 minutes just logging useless stuff instead of actually doing it. If it takes less than 2 minutes or you do it daily without thinking, leave it out of your journal. Has anyone else noticed their collections getting way cleaner after cutting the fluff?

Lost $200 on a cheap mandoline that warped after 3 weeks

I bought this no-name mandoline off Amazon for $40 back in February, thinking it was a steal. After about 20 uses slicing potatoes and beets, the plastic frame actually bent in the middle from the heat and pressure. I tried to return it but the seller was gone, so I was out the cash and had to toss it. Anyone else had luck with a specific brand that doesn't break the bank but actually holds up?

My barber's take on why some shows get canceled changed how I watch TV

I was getting a haircut last Saturday at Frank's Barbershop on 3rd Street and he started ranting about how 'Terriers' got canned after 13 episodes. He said networks don't give shows room to breathe anymore, they want instant numbers or they pull the plug. That hit different because I realized I'm part of the problem - I binge stuff months later and don't watch live, so my views don't count for renewal. Has anyone else thought about how our delayed watching habits might be killing the shows we love?

That one moment when I realized I was sharpening my chisels backwards

I spent like 3 years wondering why my chisels never held an edge. Felt like I was sharpening constantly. Then my neighbor Bob watched me one day and just laughed. Told me I had the bevel angle totally backwards, like 10 degrees off. Anyone else have that stupid simple fix that made you feel like an idiot?

Finally finished a big install without a single callback last week

Had a 6 hour job last Tuesday over in Maplewood, running coax through two attics and a crawl space. Been doing this for about 3 years now, and this was the first time I didn't have to go back for a loose fitting or a bad termination. Made sure to double check every connector with my continuity tester before I packed up. Anybody else have that one job that just made you feel like you finally know what you're doing?

Went to a hardware store in rural Montana and their tool rental section was completely empty

Stopped in at a True Value in Livingston last week needing a tile saw for a bathroom floor. Walked back to the rental counter and there was nothing. No saws, no augers, nothing. Guy said they stopped renting because nobody returned stuff on time. Had to drive 60 miles to Bozeman to find one. Anyone else notice rental sections disappearing from smaller stores?

Why does nobody talk about paperless drafting for revisions?

I used to print out every revision on 11x17 bond paper and mark it up with red pen. Switched to digital markup on Bluebeam about 2 years ago after a project in Austin had 14 revisions in one week. Now I can track changes without killing a ream of paper and it's way faster to send back to the engineer. Has anyone else found paperless just saves time or am I missing something?

Last Tuesday I finally dug out my grandmother's old sewing patterns from 1963

Found a box of Simplicity patterns in my basement from when she made her own clothes back then, and the styles are SO different from what I see now. Has anyone else tried adapting vintage patterns for modern fabrics like stretch denim?

That time my sourdough starter grew legs and walked away

I left my starter on the counter in Denver for 3 days while I went to a workshop and came back to a jar overflowing with liquid that smelled like a science lab. The thing had actually lifted the lid off and there was a puddle of hooch running down the side of my cabinet. I just scooped out the good part from the bottom and fed it fresh flour and water, and somehow it still works fine. Has anyone else had a starter survive something that gross?

Serious question, why does everyone act like folding a fitted sheet is a life skill?

I see people post those viral videos showing how to fold a fitted sheet in 10 seconds and everyone goes wild. But honestly, I've been throwing mine crumpled into the linen closet for 12 years and my kids don't care, my husband doesn't care, and the sheets come out fine. Last Tuesday I timed myself: it took 45 seconds to shove it in there and close the door. Why are we making this into some test of adult competency? Has anyone else just given up on this or am I the only one who thinks it's a total waste of brain space?
