Showerthought: Letting my cousin watch me work improved my focus
Most guys in the shop say having family around is a distraction and should be avoided. Last month, my cousin visited and sat quietly while I was inspecting landing gear. Having him there made me slow down and verbalize each step out loud. I NOTICED a tiny crack I would have missed if I was rushing like usual. Now I believe a calm observer, even a non-mechanic, can help you catch details. We should not be so quick to shut out our people from the hangar. Their presence can actually make the job SAFER.
