My garden wall project ended with bricks in the pond
I was adding a small brick wall around my garden pond for looks. Got carried away and made it too tall without proper support. A heavy rain came, and half the bricks slid right into the water. Now I have a makeshift fish hideout and a lot of cleanup. Funny how things go sideways sometimes, lmao.

Your cleanup sounds way more fun than my last home project (which was basically staring at a loose doorknob for an hour). @jesseblack is right about the foundation, but maybe those bricks just wanted a pond view.

That's actually more about the foundation than the height, lol. Bricks need something solid to sit on, or they'll shift when the ground gets wet. You probably built it right on the dirt, which turns to mud. Next time, dig a small trench and pour a concrete footer first. Even a short wall needs that base, or it'll just slide again. At least the fish got some new decor out of the deal.

Yeah, jesseblack is right about the foundation being key, lol. I did the exact same thing with my patio edge and it all tipped over after a downpour. What worked for me was digging a shallow trench and filling it with a mix of gravel and concrete mix, even for short walls. Without that base, the bricks just slide on wet dirt every time. Your fish got a free upgrade to their place though, lmao.
