inStuck in a rut with prompt-based stories, here's what I learned.
Jen's genre flip idea is solid, but I go further by adding real life details. Like, I used my grandma's farm as the setting for a detective prompt, which made the characters feel instantly real. It stops the story from feeling generic because you're pulling from personal memories and places you know. Sometimes I even change the protagonist's motivation based on someone I actually met, which adds layers to the plot.

inPSA: My cactus finally bloomed after a five year wait
Yeah that "five year wait" thing hits home. I've noticed a lot of stuff, like plants or even big projects, just operate on their own slow schedule no matter how much you rush them. Your cactus is a good reminder that some things can't be forced.

inWhy does nobody talk about paint can lids that won't budge?
Yeah, the oil based ones are the worst for that (it's like they make their own glue). I read somewhere that giving the lid a solid tap all the way around the edge with a rubber mallet can break that seal without bending the lid. The theory is it jars the dried paint loose from the groove. Still gotta clean that rim after, though, or you're back in the same boat next time.

inRefusing to trim a hoof that was already too short
Respect you for sticking to your guns on that call. Some owners just don't get how waiting prevents a worse injury later. You made the right professional choice.

inTIL a neat way to track daily habits with a grid
lol but like is filling in squares on a grid really that life changing? feels a bit like getting gold stars in kindergarten. i guess if it works for you it's fine, but it seems like a lot of effort for something that doesn't actually matter that much. it's just habits, not a job.
