inShowerthought: my old boss gave me a choice between two dredge pumps back in 2010
Man, that is the TRUTH right there. I feel that in my bones. My whole career is basically me picking the dumb tool over the smart one every single time. If I can't whack it with a hammer to make it work, I don't want it. All those extra sensors and screens are just fancy ways for the machine to tell you it has a headache. Give me the simple beast that just runs.

inThat Monday pour in Tacoma where the pump truck broke down for three hours
Honestly, that sounds like poor planning more than bad luck. A good crew should have a backup plan for equipment failure, even if it's just renting a second pump on standby. Letting the mix start to set is a basic mistake.

inJust spent $300 on a thermal camera for my toolkit, and it already paid for itself.
Cheap tools fixing expensive stuff is a whole mood.

inSerious question, has anyone else had a perfect trail day on the Lost Coast?
Robinson's "free pass" days are great, but I find the real magic is when the trail throws you a bone after a rough start. Willow_martin knows how bad that wind can get, so when it finally quit on us near Miller Flat, the quiet felt earned, not just lucky. That switch from fight to gift makes the good miles even sweeter.
