Peppers are thriving since I started watering at dawn

I noticed my pepper plants looking weak during hot days. Giving them water first thing in the morning (even before coffee) really boosted them. Any other dawn gardeners out there with tips?

Counterpoint, watering at dawn can actually cause more problems than it solves. If the sun comes up fast, that morning water evaporates before the roots get a good drink. My cousin's pepper plants got moldy from staying wet all morning in the humidity. He switched to late afternoon watering and they perked right up. Some pepper types even prefer drier soil and can handle a bit of stress. Dawn watering might just leave them weak if the heat kicks in early.

Specify what type of mulch you've found works best for keeping that morning moisture in the soil. I tried straw last year but it seemed to just harbor slugs near my bell peppers.

Slugs in your straw mulch? That's absolutely vile lmao! I've been using cocoa bean shells and they keep the soil moist without attracting pests. Total game changer for my garden.
