Tried a pre-approval through a local credit union instead of a big online bank... what a difference

I spent months shopping rates online with those big mortgage companies, getting spammed with calls every day. Finally walked into a local credit union on a Tuesday morning. The loan officer sat down with me for 45 minutes and explained exactly what I could actually afford based on my real take-home pay, not just some automated calculator. Got pre-approved in 2 days with a rate that was 0.4% lower than anything I found online. Has anyone else had way better luck with a small local bank or credit union over the big online lenders?

Hits different when they actually remember who you are, right? That personal touch makes you feel like more than just another account number. Pretty sure my credit union still thinks I'm the guy who came in with his cat last year.
